TallGrass Writers Guild (TWG) in affiliation with Outrider Press has published 25 titles in its acclaimed Black and White series of annual anthologies. They include HOME, THE MOON, Music in the Air, Fearsome Fascinations, and more. Our quqrter-century track record of discovering, encouraging and publishing over 700 new writers has meant not only their first publication credit, but their first time in a nationally known small press.

Some Approaches to Consider

·         Gambling, Races, Card/Dice/Board Games (all levels), "Luck be a Lady Tonight" / High Risk Sports   
·         Genetic luck—good and not-so-good pre-dispositions and attributes
·         Superstitions: "Born lucky" or "born on a bad-luck day" / Friday the 13th

·         Making our own luck; risk-taking; survival despite the odds
·         Lucky at love (or not)


We interpret themes broadly and recommend becoming familiar with past years' anthologies (see “Publications” tab on this web site for a sense of the work we accept. Current Sale ends 12-31-23.  

All submissions read/evaluated by in-house editorial staff. Entries shredded, not returned. All fees non-refundable. Submission does not guarantee acceptance; manuscripts making the final cut are forwarded to independent judges for possible cash award for poetry and prose. 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Each published contributor receives a free copy of the anthology. Do not send any ms. that is "protected" or locked for editing. Separate files required for each individual poetry and prose entry.  Judge: TBA. We are especially interested in poetry. Include: your complete residential contact details w/name, full postal and email addresses, and phone # on each poem and 1st sheet of prose. NO academic postal and/or email addresses nor phone # please.


Poetry: 32-line (including spaces) limit per poem; no long lines or titles, please—our anthologies are 5.5" X 8.5" w .75 margins all around. Entry fee for each full or partial group of 1-4 poems is $19/$15 for TallGrass Members.

Prose: 2500 word limit per entry; no long titles, please—our anthologies are 5.5"X 8.5" with .75 margins all around.. Cuttings from longer works OK. Number your pages. Reading fee for each entry: $19/$15-TallGrass Guild member.


NO LIMIT ON NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS IN EITHER CATEGORY

WE NOMINATE FOR THE BEST NEW POETS PRIZE, ORISON LITERARY AWARDS, AND THE PUSHCART PRIZE 


Our 2019 (LOON MAGIC and Other Night Sounds) 2018 (THE STARS), 2017 (THE MOON), 2016 (HOME) and 2015 (EMBERS AND FLAMES) anthologies featured in LITERARY LICENSE, published by the Society of Midland Authors.

FORMAT MECHANICS Double-spaced manuscripts (single spacing OK for Poetry). Use Windows Rich-Text-Format (RTF)- preferred - or Microsoft Word – no pdf.  Times Roman Font, Size 12 Only / No Head Notes or Foot Notes Reminder: Separate file for each poem or prose submission 

Include name + complete residential postal and email addresses + phone number w/area code on first sheet of prose and each poem. No academic email or postal mail or phone # please. 

Do not send any document that is Locked/Protected; entries are My Eyes Only

Step #2... MAIL TO: TallGrass Writers Guild, 2036 N Winds Drive, Dyer, IN 46311 these two items: 1. a copy of your completed Entry & Payment Form + 2. your fees.
